Ten Candle Safety Tips

Here are ten safety tips you should always follow when using candles in your home, including several courtesy of Candle-Safety.org:

  1. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  2. Do not burn candles near flammable objects such as curtains, lampshades or blankets.
  3. Burn candles only on heat resistant surfaces - they can become hot enough to damage furniture.
  4. Do not move a burning candle - extinguish candles before moving them.
  5. Do not place candles in a draft.
  6. Keep candles free of foreign material such as matches, wick clippings, paper.
  7. Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch to avoid excessive smoking.
  8. Do not burn a candle in a cracked container.
  9. Discontinue burning when less than 1/2 inch of wax remains.
  10. Keep burning candles away from children and active pets.

When was the last time you spent a quiet moment just doing nothing - just sitting and looking at the sea, or watching the wind blowing the tree limbs, or waves rippling on a pond, a flickering candle or children playing in the park?

Christmas Candles, a Yuletide Tradition

Christmas candles are a welcome part of the holiday traditions, found in tabletop centerpieces, floral arrangements, holly and greenery Christmas wreaths and even upon Christmas trees. Deck the halls with these graceful holiday additions, substituting LED candles and flameless candles where an open flame would be a safety hazard.

Choose LED Candles for Safest Holidays

T'is the season to be jolly, not the season to recover from a household fire! Where open flame is a disaster waiting to happen, choose the safer alternative of flameless or LED candles. There are even LED candles made of real wax, fooling the eye with the look of real candles but providing the peace of mind of flickering battery-powered alternatives. You won't need to spend your holiday week constantly changing batteries either - several LED candle models come with timers to set for four to eight hours of "burn time."
